Infrastructure Development Project
West Midlands Infrastructure Development Project
Regional Action West Midlands (RAWM) and Destination West Midlands (DWM) have successfully merged. DWM is now known as the West Midlands Infrastructure Development Project, or IDP. Generic voluntary and community sector interests in the West Midlands are now represented through a single infrastructure body, RAWM.
Both RAWM and the sub-regional infrastructure consortia of IDP welcome this move; it rationalises what were previously overlapping internal sector interests, and offers external stakeholders much simpler access to voluntary and community sector infrastructure.
The IDP is still based at RAWM.

IDP aims
IDP promotes the value of voluntary and community sector infrastructure at a regional level, and secures strategic support for development agencies amongst public bodies in the West Midlands.
How IDP works
IDP does this by gathering the learning from sub-regional consortia and ensuring public sector partners hear about our sector’s good practice and its positive impact on regional priorities. This can range from how infrastructure is helping communities to deal with the recession, to how we contribute to better commissioning and procurement arrangements.
IDP governance
IDP is a RAWM strategy group and has a place on RAWM's board. This is ensures that capacity building is now at the heart of RAWM and integral to all its external relationships. Each consortium has a place on the group and elects a chair and vice-chair from amongst its numbers.
IDP and the future
We all know that funding for infrastructure is under severe pressure. By bringing IDP into RAWM we believe we have a stronger platform from which to face the future. By collaborating we are now be able to take up opportunities which previously were difficult for us separately. IDP is building stronger relationships with other policy forums in RAWM.
IDP and equalities
The West Midlands Specialist Infrastructure Partnership (WMSIP) is one such policy forum. Before the merger WMSIP was part of DWM, now it is just as integral to RAWM. WMSIP focuses on equality and diversity issues, such as supporting development agencies to help front-line organisations for lesbian gay bisexual and transsexual people. There are representatives from disability interests, women's interests, BME interests etc as well as some thematic representatives, such as a housing network, a faith network and a rural network.
IDP retains very strong links with WMSIP and is committed to seek its contribution to regional infrastructure discussions.
Who’s in the IDP?
The IDP still consists of 9 subs regional consortia, each of which have frontline infrastructure organisations, volunteer centres and development agencies in their membership.
