Applications invited for Screen WM’s Transition Fund

In preparation for the transition of regional film funding to Creative England, Screen WM has established a £100,000 Transition Fund to provide interim support to organisations playing a key role in the continuing delivery of the company’s film strategy in the West Midlands.

The Transition Fund has been made available through the Regional Investment Fund for England (RIFE) Lottery and will be distributed by Screen WM on behalf of the British Film Institute (BFI).  The Transition Fund will support projects that fall into the following categories:

  1. Film and media education hubs (with priority given to projects supporting rural provision)
  2. Film festivals
  3. Regional industry support networks
  4. Archives (with priority given to projects that preserve, conserve and make accessible the region’s screen heritage).

The maximum individual award will be £25,000 and the fund will only support activity taking place up to the 30th September 2011.

Screen WM expects the fund to be highly competitive and recommends that individuals and organisations read the guidelines very carefully before submitting any application.

Urgent applications can be sent for a fast track deadline of 26th April 2011. The standard application deadline is 20 May 2011 at 5pm. No submissions will be accepted beyond this date.

Community Games

It’s already been a month since we celebrated 500 days to the Olympic Games, on Tuesday 15 March, David Moorcroft, Chair of the West Midlands Leadership Group for the 2012 Games and Community Games organisers from across the West Midlands came together to encourage communities to sign up to organise their own Community Games events in the run up to 2012.

To-date over 12,000 people have participated in Community Games with a target of over 100,000 to have taken part in 500 Games by the end of 2012. Community Games, funded by Legacy Trust UK, provide a wonderful and unique opportunity for communities from all backgrounds right across the West Midlands to come together to celebrate the 2012 Games and enable thousands of people to experience and create their own Olympic or Paralympic moment.

Henry Parker, from the Oakamoor Community Games said: “Community Games is a great opportunity to bring the local community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The Community Games is an ideal way to link any special event you have planned for 2011 or 2012 to the Inspiration of the London Games  -  To start your own journey to Inspiration with the Community Games – go to
