Supporting the voluntary and community sector in the West Midlands

Other Stakeholders Group

The Other Stakeholders Group (OSG) is the coordinating body for 16 seats on the 100 strong West Midlands Regional Assembly. The Voluntary and Community Sector holds a number of seats within the other stakeholders grouping.

The Regional Assembly is a crossroads for regional partnership working on a wide range of public services and quality of life issues. Consequently, it is important that the Voluntary and Community Sector plays an active part in the work of the Assembly.

The OSG is made up of a range of different organisations. While the business and local government sectors represented within the Regional Assembly have a single focus on their respective interests, the OSG is a ‘rainbow coalition’ of different community, economic and social bodies.

Who Are the Other Stakeholders?

Examples of the groupings within the OSG currently include:

  • Environmentalists – Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds;
  • Trades Unions – Midlands Trade Unions Council;
  • Faith Groups – West Midlands Faith Forum;
  • Parish Councils – West Midlands Association of Town & Parish Councils;
  • Housing Associations – West Midlands Housing Federation;
  • Health – West Midlands Strategic Health Authority;
  • Youth – Youth Parliament.

There are also seats allowing participation from disability, gender and minority groups.

RAWM nominates representatives to the OSG from the Voluntary and Community Sector, and nominees are selected to ensure both urban and rural sector voices are heard.
