Supporting the voluntary and community sector in the West Midlands

Mapping the Voluntary & Community Sector (2009)

In 2003, RAWM produced ‘Mapping the Contribution of the Voluntary & Community Sector to the Economy of the West Midlands’. Drawing on the Charity and Companies House Registers, this comprehensive survey demonstrated the sizeable contribution made by non-statutory, not-for-profit organisations to the financial economy of the region.

We have now been commissioned by Advantage West Midlands to update the report with some key differences:

  • The report is being undertaken in two parts: 1) GuideStar has been commissioned to update the original report on registered organisations across the West Midlands; 2) The Centre for Community Research has been contracted to track down unregistered ‘below the radar‘ organisations in geographical sub-regions starting with Coventry/Warwickshire and Stoke/Staffordshire.
  • The Voluntary & Community Sector has been combined with social enterprises and housing associations to create the ‘Third Sector’.
  • Initial findings are given in the attached promotional flyer and the Executive Summary has been published. Both of these are available for download from the toolbar on the right.
