Local umbrella body Navca is to cut almost half its workforce over the next six months in response to expected funding cuts of about 50 per cent.

The organisation will reduce its staffing from 38 to about 20, according to chief executive Kevin Curley. He said that the organisation's income in 2011 was likely to be £1.5m – down from £3m in 2010.

The cuts are being made because the charity's funding from Capacitybuilders and the Big Lottery Fund will end in March and April next year respectively.
