New guidance for careers advisers on the opportunities for paid healthcare employment in the voluntary sector has been published by Skills for Health and Skills - Third Sector.

Careers in Healthcare: A Guide to Working in Voluntary Organisations [2.63 mB, PDF] highlights the growing significance of voluntary organisations as dynamic providers of healthcare services, offering rewarding careers in a wide range of health-related roles.

The guide includes case studies of 15 voluntary sector providers such as Action for Blind People and St Johns Ambulance, demonstrating the unique benefits of working in the sector. These include the ability to 'make a difference' working for a cause, a flexible and fast-moving environment, a 'hands-on' culture and greater autonomy and empowerment.
