THE NHS HOSPITAL TRUST which runs Sandwell General, Birmingham City and Rowley Regis hospitals is on the look out for a new Non-executive Director.

Offering an exceptional opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of people in the local community, the post requires senior level experience in the voluntary or community service sector, such as experience of regeneration, housing, community development or service provision for disadvantaged groups. Significant experience engaging with the diverse social, economic and cultural groups served by the trust, particularly the black and minority ethnic communities is essential.

The post requires a minimum time commitment of two and a half days each month and remuneration is £6,096 pa. The closing date for applications is 12noon on 26th July 2011, with interviews being held on 11th August 2011.

The Trust serves a highly diverse and disadvantaged population, and is committed to a programme of transformational change to health services in the area. In April 2011 the Community Services arm of Sandwell PCT transferred to the Trust.

The Trust is looking to achieve Foundation Trust status during 2012. NHS Foundation Trusts are a key part of the reform programme in the NHS. They are autonomous organisations with greater freedom to decide how to improve their services and can retain any surpluses they generate, or borrow money to support these investments. These freedoms mean NHS Foundation Trusts can better shape their healthcare services around local needs and priorities.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust Chair Sue Davis said: “The Trust Board values and promotes diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity for all. We believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve. We particularly want to hear from women and people from black and minority ethnic communities who are able to make a real contribution to the Trust.”
