The course will enable managers and trustees of voluntary organisations to understand the key challenges facing their organisations and be able to develop a practical and realistic strategy. It will introduce a range of practical tools and techniques designed to help organisations through difficult and uncertain times and will outline the practical implications of some of the main issues organisations will have to face. Issues will include:

  • Developments in commissioning
  • Major budget cuts
  • The “Big Society”
  • Personal choice
  • Being expected to do more
  • Partnership working
  • Competition
  • Project funding

The course will look at how voluntary organisations can think, plan and act strategically in difficult times. Course members will have the opportunity to identify key issues facing their organisation, focus on how they can best steer a future direction and follow up opportunities. Delegates will also be able to consider how they can support staff and volunteers through uncertain or fast changing times and how they can develop a culture that supports positive change at work.
