Shropcamp is a conference bringing together people working to deliver public services at a local level across Shropshire, Staffordshire and the UK.

It is part of the family of localgovcamps taking place across the UK.

Shropcamp particularly want to look at how service providers (police, health service, councils, social enterprises and charities) can use open data and social media to deliver better services together.

There's a lot of work going on nationally about this agenda. A great place to start finding out about things is this report "The Foundation of Accountability".

And Shropcamp will probably want to talk about the rural dimension to all this.

The government is pushing local authorities to publish their datasets to allow other people to build useful tools on the data. This might be fabulous if you are a London Borough with excellent connectivity and a critical mass of computer programmers. Is it going to be the same for sparsely populated rural Councils?
