On 17 June 2010, the European Council adopted the Europe 2020 Strategy. It sets out a vision of Europe’s social market economy for the 21st century by putting forward three mutually reinforcing priorities – Smart Growth, Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Growth. The latter encompasses two flagship initiatives “An Agenda for new skills and jobs” and “The European platform against poverty”.

Would you like to take part in promoting social inclusion, in particular through the reduction of poverty?

WMEN (West Midlands European Network) together with TSEN (Third Sector European Network) is holding a conference to discuss the role of EU funding programmes in realising Europe 2020 Strategy, especially in reducing social exclusion and strengthening territorial cohesion.

WMEN and TSEN have put together a stimulating and informative programme with Brian Harvey explaining how Europe 2020 Strategy will affect policies implemented by UK Government and the implications for third sector organisations. Michael Fothergill will focus on welfare influencing and lobbying – understanding welfare reform. Stuart Russon will inform how to access transnational programmes to promote social innovation and create a platform for cooperation, peer-review and exchange of good practice among the Member States.
