Order , order, ORDER!

Having navigated Seven days in the sector of the 6th September edition of Third Sector, I was instantly confronted by the questions that perplexes the most sober minds of both the private and statutory sectors - what is the charity sector? When is a charity not a charity? And what Is the difference between the charity sector and the voluntary and community sector?

This eternal wrangle continues to add pin pricks to the helium balloon – a balloon fuelled by sector passion and not always sector skills (sorry for misquoting Gethyn Williams, director of workforce development). Gethyn is right that passion is a vital complement to ability, it is not the skill set.

The charity sector is not immune to the economic climate because it fundraises and, neither is it perfect because it has the reputation of ‘doing good’, we should be trying to get our own sector house in order and not squabbling about which of us has the ‘emperors new clothes’; don't you think?
